THE SOMNAMBULIST
November 2013
Film maker Reuben Abraham was commissioned by Channel 4, Northern Film & Media and GemArts to shoot, direct and produce THE SOMNAMBULIST set in Bombay. The film is about worker A who spends his nights in bouts of sleepwalking, while either drifting to work at a factory, or in the brothels and streets of Bombay. The film pertains to the monotony of life and work; and the sense of constantly moving, but not arriving anywhere. The visuals are based on Freud's 'das unheimliche' where it all looks uncomfortably familiar and uncanny. Filmed in the red-light district of Kamathipura and the streets of Dongri, infamous for the gangland wars of Bombay, this film presents an alternative and personal view of Bombay by night. The film was premiered at BALTIC in November 2013 and selected for Channel 4's Random Acts
