Tar Rang brings together an ensemble of exceptional musicians for a truly special performance – a rare jugalbandi that weaves together 100 colours and 100 strings in a vibrant celebration of Indian classical music.

At its essence, jugalbandi (meaning “entwined twins”) is a musical dialogue between two solo performers of equal stature. More than a duet, it is a conversation – spontaneous, intricate, and full of emotion – where each artist listens, responds, and challenges the other in a beautifully balanced exchange.

On sarangi, we welcome Satwinder Pal Singh, now based in the UK, who began his musical journey in Punjab, India Known as the “instrument of a hundred colours,” the sarangi echoes the depth and emotion of the human voice. Satwinder’s playing is marked by warmth, subtlety, and extraordinary expression.

He is joined by Kaviraj Singh, a virtuoso of the santoor and gifted Indian classical vocalist. Kaviraj is celebrated for his rare blend of technical brilliance and emotional depth, delivering performances that are both artistically rich and soul-stirring. Together, they bring the sonic interplay of sarangi and santoor to life — strings that sing and resonate with centuries of tradition.

Completing this very special Riverside Ragas concert are two remarkable tabla players: Upneet Singh and Rajvir Singh of the Benaras Gharana, known for their melodic phrasing and rhythmic sophistication.

Join us for Tar Rang – a spellbinding jugalbandi that unites tradition, creativity, and the timeless beauty of Indian classical music.
