Ex Nihilo/The Human Edge

Ex Nihilo/The Human Edge

Two brand new works, Ex Nihilo / The Human Edge, draw on the epic creation myths of sacred Indian texts to explore the ancient questions of creation and human life through dance. Ex Nihilo is an expression of the poetic thinking and abstract imagery questioning the time before the Big Bang whilst The Human Edge draws inspiration from the aspect of the universe that is perceivably within our grasp - the human angle. Based on the story of Sati the choreography evokes the drama of Sati’s life and death as a metaphor of a star.
Featuring sound installation from Bill Fontana’s recordings of the Large Hadron Collider as part of his Prix Ars Electronica artist residency at CERN Geneva, and music composed by Boonham's long-term collaborators, Midival Punditz.

Principally commissioned by The Royal Opera House, Royal Ballet Studio Programme and co-commissioned by Pavilion Dance South West, supported using public funding by Arts Council England.

This presentation of Ex-Nihilo/The Human Edge will also include a pre performance introduction from Mayuri Boonham (7pm), and post performance In Conversation with Dr Alexander Lenz of Durham University (8:45pm).

Refreshments will be served during the In Conversation.
