GemArts in association with Sunderland Stages presents Kadam Pulse’s Gods and Mortals, performed by the exceptional Odissi Ensemble, a quartet of dancers from very different backgrounds, brought together by their love of odissi.

Odissi is inspired by imagery from temple sculptures, and stories of gods and mortals. In this exciting project four passionate, committed and highly-trained odissi dancers, accompanied by live music, present a richly-textured evening of solo and group choreographies.

Usually presented as a solo form, this dance of devotion, divine and human, will be presented in pieces created by the dancers for the group as well as solo items, with the thrill of live musical accompaniment that draws out the intricacies of melody and rhythm while the dancers create harmonies of movement.

Dancers: Elena Catalano, Katie Ryan, Maryam Shakiba and Kali Chandrasegaram
Accompanying musicians: Ranjana Ghatak (vocals), Parvati Rajamani (spoken rhythms), Gurdain Rayatt (percussion) and May Robertson (violin).

Presented in association with Kadam/Pulse, as part of Sunderland Stages.
