Riverside Ragas: Baluji Shrivastav

Riverside Ragas: Baluji Shrivastav

The Best of Baluji Shrivastav’ Classic Tour celebrates his recent award of OBE for services to music. Baluji  will perform a special concert of mesmerising Indian classical music, accompanied by tablas.

We are delighted to welcome one of the greatest instrumentalists to come from India  to GemArts Autumn Winter season. Baluji Shrivastav is a blind musician who excels in playing the sitar, dilruba and tabla among other traditional Indian instruments.  Described by London's Evening Standard as “sitarist to the stars”, his incredible versatility has led him to work with acts like Massive Attack, Stevie Wonder, Shakira, and Coldplay and of course many of India’s finest artists including Ustad Faiyaz Khan and Anindo Chatterji. His music has also featured in TV and films, most recently in Disney’s Million Dollar Arm!
In 2008 he founded the Baluji Music Foundation to encourage disabled people to get involved in music, music being such an important part of how he communicates with the world.

“Virtuoso multi-instrumentalist”-The Times
“Music which crosses all cultural divides”-The Guardian

As part of GemArts Riverside Ragas series, this concert includes a pre-concert talk, free to ticket holders.
