In a small village in Assam, in northeast India, 10 year old Dhunu dreams of having her own rock band.
With her vibrant youthful spirit and fired by her imagination and passion for music, Dhunu sets out to achieve her ambition. Yet in a world overshadowed by poverty and the struggles of daily life, her widowed mother struggling to put food on the table, and where the boys in her gang tease her for being a girl, Dhunu refuses to give up on her dreams. Rima Das' second feature is set in the village in which she grew up, shot amid vibrant monsoon swept landscapes with non-professional actors, presenting an inspiring vision about music, dreams and empowerment.
Director: Rima Das, India 2017, Assamese + English subtitles, 97 mins
Plus intro by Sonali Joshi, Co-Founder & Artistic Director of Aperture: Asia & Pacific Film Festival, and Founder & Director of Day for Night.
