Changing Perspectives

Changing Perspectives

The Gateshead Goes Local Community Locally Led Development programme supports projects which help build social and human capital and promote business growth and innovation. Projects working with people from the hardest to reach communities and experiencing multiple disadvantages to give people the opportunity to make progress towards employment, enterprise, education or training.

GemArts are working with women from BAME communities in Gateshead, women from deprived areas of low income within Gateshead CLLD area, specifically from Bensham and Bridges ward, who are unemployed or inactive.  Many of the women feel isolated and face barriers on many levels including social, economic and cultural.  Our projects are helping to engage women in activities to overcome barriers and enabling them to: access informal creative learning and training opportunities, to socialise and interact with other women, facilitating their progress towards further training, volunteering, employment and enterprise.

Currently GVEMSG Feel Good Group are working with artist Michelle Wood, expanding their creative skills in print, textiles and bookbinding. They are creating beautiful products that will be sold at GemArts events and local craft fairs. If you are interested in buying any products please contact GemArts Project Manager Alexandra
