Contemporary Cultures

A group of young people from Gateshead Young Muslim Advisory Group worked with contemporary artist Ed Blazey to explore the theme of contemporary cultures and reflect on multiculturalism in the North East Through the medium of digital film/photography and sound they used the Turner Prize as a stimulus to explore what contemporary British Art is and how it relates to British culture.

The participants produced an abstract film which was shown at a private event at Baltic on 9th February 2012, to which staff and trustees of all partner organisations (GemArts, Baltic and Positive Images) and the funders (Northern Film & Media) were invited.
