School workshop- The Language of Colour

Work with a visual artist to explore the role of colour in Hindi celebrations

Colour and pigments are a key part of celebrations in the Hindi calendar, whether celebrating the return of spring with Holi or lighting up the night as winter approaches with Diwali. Artists, dancers and craft masters have long been inspired by the vibrancy of these celebrations- and your students will be too! By making

Working with a professional artist students will collaborate to create an intricate rangoli. Rangolis are similar to mandalas but more removed from spiritual practice. These colourful artworks use the vibrant powders characteristic of Holi, finished artwork could be for display or to take home. These workshops incorporate geometric concepts, including symmetry and design principles and the chance to discuss the traditions of Hindi festivals and traditional tales.

Half day workshop £150 plus materials, full day £250 plus materials

Workshops can be delivered as a one-off taster or developed into a longer project.

These  workshops can support celebrations of Holi, Diwali, Vaisaki, International days or art projects

A typical Language of Colour workshop will last for up to 2 hours for each group, can include up to 30 students per session and can incorporate other curriculum topics being studied.
