Diwali Workshops for Schools
Diwali is the festival of lights celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across the world. It celebrates new beginnings, the triumph of good over evil, knowledge over ignorance, and light over darkness. To Book contact: info@gemarts.org

Online sessions: £100 for 3 video package

GemArts has produced a series of online videos with our professional artists to help pupils understand and celebrate Diwali and as an introduction to the culture of India.

  • GemArts Diwali Shadow Puppets and Theatre Making with Sofia
  • GemArts Bollywood Dance with Breeze
The online video links will be sent to schools to use, via GemArts Vimeo channel, and will be available for 2 weeks from purchase to support learning around Diwali.  Puppet instructions and Rangoli templates will be downloadable for use in your own time.

GemArts Diwali storytelling with Peter Chand
A lively telling of the traditional Diwali story by Peter Chand, one of Europe’s renowned Indian storytellers.
Follow the adventures of Prince Rama as he rescues his wife Sita, who has been kidnapped by Ravana, the ten-headed, evil king of Lanka.
Will light triumph over darkness and good overcome evil?



GemArts Diwali Shadow Puppets and Theatre Making with Sofia
Artist Sofia will show you how to create shadow puppets of the Diwali characters, so you can re-tell the epic story of Diwali in your own handmade theatre, using everyday arts materials.
Templates will be provided or students can design their own.



GemArts Bollywood Dance with Breeze
An introduction to Bollywood dance, one of the most famous dance styles from Indian Bollywood Film, fusing Indian classical and folk dance, with Latin and hip hop styles.
GemArts dancer Breeze will take pupils (and staff) step by step through a fun, energetic dance workshop for you to be able to dance your own routine at the end.



FREE Mandala drawing video and Rangoli colouring sheets will be included with each video. These can be used for relaxation and mindfulness, with suggestions of how to create your own Rangolis in school from other arts materials.


 

Artist Workshops in school: £250 per day, artist can work with 4-5 classes per day

Arts Award Discover
GemArts can support schools to deliver Arts Award Discover along with these workshop packages. This is an introductory award, designed for ages 5+ to give young people the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the arts.

Young people take part in arts activities, research artists, collect evidence and share their arts discoveries. Certificates cost £4pp. For info contact: info@gemarts.org
