School workshop- Iftar and Eid
Iftar is the meal which breaks a fast- an Iftar table can be filled with nutritious foods and decorations. Eid (Eid el-Fitr, Eid and Eid al-Adha ) are the tradition of celebrating together with food, decorations and faith. These celebrations vary greatly from country, discipline and family. Our workshops aim to give context to the celebration while exploring the links between creativity and the sciences.
Outcomes can vary depending on preferences and ability, for example, students might learn about the foods typically eaten at Iftar and use air drying clay to make and decorate bowls using traditional designs. Or they might learn about the suns cycle and the timings of breaking a fast by making a lantern or candle holder.
These workshops are designed to be stand alone activities in school without building towards a longer project.
These workshops can support celebrations of International days or art projects
A typical workshop lasts at least 1 hour for a class of 30 students in which students can learn about Islamic geometry and make a range of outcomes inclusing painted tiles, lanterns and more.
